Prospective students - here are some cool features for you.... And we have more coming up

tMC was created to give prospective students a better view of college campuses.

That is why we now offer you the chance to play a more active role in the profiles of colleges your interested in.

Prospective Students - go to the spotlight section of colleges and use it as a tool to ask questions and find answers to your curiosity. Just go there and make a post -- it will show up as a question....

We are currently working to see that you get your answers on tMC either from students of from admissions offices... So take the fist step and share your curiosity... ask questions....

Naturally, to facilitate this process, we are releasing a new feature -either later today or tomorrow- that will allow college representatives to express what questions they would like to answer... so keep your eyes open and keep tMCing...

Confused about where to start?

After nearly a week of launching, we have had a good number of colleges sign on to that's MY COLLEGE (tMC), and I thank you for that. However, I had a chat with one of my friends today, and I realized that because tMC offers something quite different from other websites, I'm sure that some of you have signed on, looked a bit, and think,

"What am I supposed to do now?" Hopefully, this post can clear up some confusion.

One thing that is always challenging is to initiate activity. Since TMC is new, it isn't easy figuring out what to do, and without much activity going on for the first few days, it could even be intimidating. But once the ball gets rolling, it will get easier to post content and thus creates more activity in profiles. Check out Northwestern's profile - it only took two or three posts, but eventually people started understanding what's going on and contributed on their own. And I encourage you, my fellow college student, to do the same.

Let's break down the college profile.

Here is the basic profile of the college. Recently, we have allowed current students to edit the contents of the basic information as well as change the profile picture. It is after all, a little frustrating to see admissions deadlines that are almost 30 years ago, or to see that smiley face each time rather than your esteemed college logo.

Here your college profile can store up to 40 pictures. Upload events, college scenery; whatever it takes to show off your college! Also, if you know of interesting statistics/facts about the school, feel free to showcase it on the Did You Know section. With Recent News and the Spotlight section (see below image), it is a simple click and filling in the fields (there's only three to fill out).

This is the heart of your college profile. The opportunity for students to post information about their colleges in pre-defined categories. Whenever you feel passionate about something about your college, share it with the others and especially the high school students! Or if you are a very busy person, we have made it simple: if an applicant sends you a message, and you are more than willing to answer, you can answer the question and have the ability to post the answer so anybody can benefit.

Indeed, it doesn't take much to be able to make an impact and influence your next wave of admitted students. I apologize for the lengthy post, but hopefully I hope I have cleared up any confusion that might arise. If there are any questions, don't hesitate to comment on this post!

1st day Feedback

Dear All,

I wanted to thank you for all the support that you extended us as we launched tMC today!!!!

The whole experience has been great and as I spoke to student groups and admitted students today, I was happy to see that everyone has taken a liking to the idea.... The only complaint has been the need to register and on this front, I agree its a pain but if you guys don't register, there is no way for us connect prospective to current students through the recommendation engine....

And if your going to forget your password, thats fine too. You can always recover it or even use one of your more common passwords on tMC...

So Viva tMC... get started by registering and making a mini-blog post....

tMC - We are live!

Spread the word - our dream will become a reality!

From tomorrow onwards, represent your college and make a difference by contributing and getting your high school on board, thus helping applicants find thier happy homes for 4 years (if you dont see your college represented and would like to have it added, please contact us and we will act on it at the earliest).

Thanks so much for your support thus far. Now is the time to take it to the next level.

Applicants - here is the TRUTH about college admissions

College admissions today are getting so competitive that colleges are looking for new and innovative ways to discover great candidates.

But with sooo many candidates out there, colleges tend to shy away from actively pursuing potential applicants. Lets look at some numbers:

If a college gets about 10,000 applications (which is not out of the normal today), you can imagine that at least 30,000 people must have been considered applying to it at some point. Now, if each of these people express interest in the college or send their information, you can begin to see the problems that result. No one is going to look at their "supplementary" information regardless of what anyone else says....

Colleges will wait till they receive applications and will then evaluate them as they always have. This method won’t allow you to show colleges that you are a good match for them before applications are in.

However, don’t give up hope. You can still show colleges what a great candidate you are. Rather you need to have other people - college students at colleges your interested in- tell their admissions officers what a good candidate you are. Your answer is Networking!

In today’s world, people have realized the value of networking in the job market with over 70% of jobs (yeah 70% of jobs) being found today via networking. But what people don’t yet realize is the power of networking can play in college admissions.

Don’t get me wrong though. By saying this, I don’t mean that knowing the right people will get you into the school you want. Rather I mean that sharing the right information, asking the right questions and building the right associations with the right people can help you show how you are the perfect match for schools you are considering - This is just as in the job market where knowing the right people is good, but you have to show them your value before they help you get a job...

Websites like Linkedin and Doostang exist to help in job networking, but until now nothing has helped college applicants leverage the power of their networks in finding their ideal homes for 4 years.

That’s where we come in to help! We at tMC believe that we have developed the right interaction to help you network with the right people who can make a difference to your applications.

We believe its time to make college decisions easier and more realistic, just as they should be. Check out our cool features and Welcome to the world of tMC. We launch April 16th

That’s MY COLLEGE – A Brief Overview

Our Inspiration

Everybody knows the pain of college applications; the amount of work it takes, the decisions that must be made, the conflicting interests of your peers and counselors, and to top it all off, your other commitments such as regular school work. My colleagues and I have gone through the very same pains, and after about six months into college, we decided that it was time to end the unnecessary annoyances that come with applications.

Thus, we spent many months developing our idea, and that's MY COLLEGE was born.

The Online Community

That's MY COLLEGE involves the essential folks in the application process; namely the applicant, the current college student, the college admissions, and the high school counselor. These people interact with each other, keeping the following in mind that they help:

  • Make college decisions easier
  • Connect high school students to college students based on similar geographies and interests.

Applicants: You have questions, who better to answer than your fellow alumni? TMC helps connect you with other people that hail from similar areas, or instead hooks you up with people who have similar interests as you. It is also your chance to connect with admissions officers when you develop your profile and make a name for yourself!

College Students: Many of us want to help our high-school students or even people from around our area get into college and help reduce their stress. But we are also very busy people, and tMC makes everything easy with the click of a mouse. Connecting has never been easier!

Admissions Officers: Know your applicants on a more personal level and find them more easily. Contribute to your college profile and promote it! We know that you are busy people too, so we have made the task as painless as possible by letting current students contribute in the same manner.

High School Advisors: With so many applicants to take care of and the varieties of colleges they are applying to, it's hard to research all the information. TMC makes it easy for you to keep up to date with college events, and this in turn makes guiding your students easier and more relevant!

College Profile: This is the center of all the interaction between the users. Our structure ensures that information is kept up to date and stays relevant. It also provides a door for even more communication. As it thrives, so does its community around it.
